POSITION DESCRIPTION
This part-time contractual position (hired by Ridge to Reefs, Inc.) will support the Ridge to Reefs Restoration Coordinator and other team members to accomplish NRCS project objectives. This individual will expand local capacity to provide on-the-ground technical assistance to producers. This position will support the advancement of the IDLS while also supporting general project objectives for existing Ridge to Reefs / NRCS projects. This position has the opportunity to build up to a full-time position with Ridge to Reefs.
PURPOSE
To increase local capacity for “boots on the ground” technical support to accomplish NRCS conservation and Ridge to Reefs project objectives. This individual will receive the necessary training to understand, be able to construct and/or operate, and be an advocate for the IDLS and other conservation practices (high tunnels, chicken coops, vegetative cover, BMPs, etc.). This individual will support and regularly collaborate with the local Restoration Coordinator to achieve project objectives.
SCOPE OF WORK
1. Meet with Restoration Coordinator to determine tasks on a regular basis
2. Work with Project Manager and Restoration Coordinator to complete project objectives; this may include:
a. Identifying interested participants or producers for projects
b. Communicating expectations and providing education to participants/producers
c. Helping participants/producers select the proper carpenters and other skilled labor to complete projects
d. Working on the ground with partners or producers to construct BMPs
e. Helping to host workshops and other training opportunities with RTR, NRCS and other agencies
f. Communicating with local agencies to develop partnerships and/or expedite the approval of permits and other regulatory requirements
REQUIREMENTS
- Must be physically able and possess basic carpentry skills to assist with construction and hands-on building activities when needed
- Must live full-time on Tutuila
- Must have reliable transportation and be willing to travel across the island for projects
- Must have the confidence and professionalism to speak with government agencies and other formal partners in order to advance project objectives
- Has good time management skills
- Has good communication and relationship building skills
- Reliable and dependable
- Able to collaborate and work well with team members
- Good attention to detail (i.e. can keep track of a variety of project objectives and timelines)
EXPECTATIONS
Part-Time Position(s) Details:
- One 20 hours per week Restoration Support position ($26/hr x 20 hrs x 48 weeks = $27,471.60 / year)
Duration: One Year, with possibility for extension
Reports To: Ridge to Reefs staff (Kelly Harris, Paul Sturm)
- Expected to consult with Restoration Coordinator at least every 1 weeks to establish action items and priorities
- Expected to meet with RTR management every 2 weeks
- Expected to study and understand the SOW for several active grants
- A detailed scope of work with realistic goals and projected timelines will be provided to the contractor at the beginning of his/her contract
- Expected to work with local partners, including the Natural Resources Conservation Service, American Samoa Community College, and others to host trainings and provide technical assistance to producers
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $26.00 per hour
