Description :
Position Title: Chief Scientific Officer, New Iberia Research Center
Department: 9010|NIRC Administration
Responsibilities:
The Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) at the New Iberia Research Center (NIRC) will work closely with the Director and Associate Director to define the mission, objectives, and strategic planning of the center. The CSO will focus on understanding NIRC’s strengths, expanding its research footprint, developing key relationships, and contributing novel technologies to further the unique offerings of the Center.
- Develop and manage a center-funded research program aimed at developing new animal models of human diseases and refining existing models.
- Develop a highly skilled veterinary surgery team to facilitate minimally invasive sample collections and data acquisition from nonhuman primates.
- Manage surgical research support technical staff and support ongoing research clients and collaborations, and help develop new ones.
- Oversee training and education of the surgical veterinary team to ensure staff are well trained and knowledgeable about the center’s mission.
- Leverage unique technologies to build an externally funded and collaborative grant and research portfolio using nonhuman primates and other models.
- Facilitate development and implementation of automation software applications to improve data management efficiency and quality.
- Represent NIRC at national and international conferences to increase recognition of the center's capabilities and importance.
- Obtain a faculty appointment in an appropriate department with appropriate resources to facilitate research objectives.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
- DVM, MD and/or PhD with advanced surgery expertise.
- 10 years of Nonhuman primate research experience.
- 10 years of track record in leading a research group.
- Evidence of securing substantial external funding
