American Samoa is a U.S. territory, with an easy travel route from Honolulu to Pago Pago.

Neil’s Ace Home Center is an Ace Hardware store, one of the biggest retailers on the island, with over 120 employees and the most amazing customers. We recently celebrated our 40th anniversary, a testament to our long-term stability and consistency.

The Store Manager will work closely with Management to lead our team to the next milestone celebration! With the dynamic global economic climate, this role will be pivotal in helping Neil’s Ace diversify and expand our presence in the local community while developing our team members to their fullest potential.

Neil’s Ace is now hiring for a Store Manager. This is a full-time position. Candidate must be able to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays, and sometimes after-store hours to meet the needs of the business. Prior management experience in a retail environment is a plus.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Customer Service

• Promote Customer Service as the number one priority. This requires daily coaching, monitoring employees’ performance and interactions on the sales floor.
• Be a problem solver. Proactively assist customers and resolve customer complaints.

Sales and Operations

• Delegate, train, and monitor the progress of all associates and all facets of the hardware store.
• Provides product feedback to the Management and Buyers, including making recommendations regarding new items to carry or those that should be discontinued.
• Create and streamline applicable processes within the organization.
• Keeps up to date on external best practices and relevant changes to their field/area; communicates updates to leadership.
• Open and close the store as needed.
• Supervise the “general operations” of the entire store.
• Ensure compliance with all practices, policies and procedures necessary to manage inventory shrinkage. Monitor shrinkage numbers and take corrective actions.
• Help with the overall general maintenance of the store.

Coaching and Training

• Identify appropriate training for store associates and oversee all training requirements monthly for all associates (New-Hire orientation, on-the-job training, and vendor training).
• Hire, train and develop retail staff with goals for growth and success in their positions, provide performance feedback and recognize accomplishments.
• Conduct monthly and quarterly department meetings to communicate store goals and provide appropriate training for the staff.
• Utilize daily huddles to facilitate training topics and coach the staff.
• Actively participate, engage with team, monitor that employees are recognized and appreciated.
• Ability to provide motivation and leadership to employees store wide.

Safety Compliance and Housekeeping

• Enforces safety policies and procedures daily.
• Enforces housekeeping procedures daily to ensure and maintain the best store appearance.
• Ensure a safe environment for customers and employees, by identifying and rectifying hazards, maintaining store equipment in proper order.

Additional Requirements

• Must have previous management experience and retail knowledge.
• Technically skilled in basic computer knowledge and software (such as Word, Excel, Email, internet research)
• Must have good written and oral communication skills.

Physical Demands

• Tasks involve the ability to exert moderate, though not constant physical effort, typically involving a combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling.
• Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
• Requires the ability to reach, bend, balance, lift and transport various objects weighing up to 30 lbs. repeatedly throughout the shift; at times, product weight may reach 50 lbs. Requires the ability to move heavy product with assistance.
