Description :
The Federal Reserve Board seeks two (2) highly motivated graduate-level computer science students to join its TechLab as computer science fellows for the fall academic semester. (Spring and/or Summer 2021 extension possible.) Fellows will support the TechLab’s ongoing digital currencies experimentation work.
Potential projects will focus on topics such as distributed ledgers, digital objects, digital identities, cryptography, programming language interoperability, data storage, cybersecurity, information technology (IT) hardware, and hosting conventions. Projects will depend on and align with the fellows’ knowledge base and interests.
Fellows are expected to contribute written work and code product as part of their assignments. Fellows will work virtually between 10 and 20 hours per week.

About the TechLab
The TechLab is a virtual team representing a cross-section of Federal Reserve Board and Federal Reserve Bank staff who research and analyze new technologies broadly relevant to digital currencies and other payment, clearing, and settlement (PCS) activities. The team conducts hands-on research to further the Federal Reserve’s understanding of specific payments technologies, broaden technical expertise across the Federal Reserve System, and support development of policy views and oversight frameworks for new technologies. The team contributes to the Board’s broader fintech and digital innovations work.

Position Requirements Position Requirements
The ideal candidate has an interest in fintech, a working knowledge of object-oriented programming, and strong academic performance.
Required qualifications:
  • hold U.S. Citizenship
  • currently enrolled in a graduate-level computer science program
  • excellent programming skills, preferably in JavaScript, C++, and Python
  • working knowledge of computer networking concepts
  • excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • excellent collaboration and people skills
