Purpose of the position:

The Bridge Tender is in charge of and responsible for the safe operation of our bridges.

Position accountabilities:

• Recording each movement of the span and the date, time, and name of the vessel and direction of passage in a log book
• Perform bridge maintenance to movable bridge operating components and other basic maintenance
• You will be working in a safety sensitive environment which includes working around heavy moving equipment
• All work is performed outdoors, you will be working on railway bridges with exposure to all weather conditions such as rain, direct sunlight and snow
• Must be comfortable working on a structure at heights with proper fall protection equipment
• Relief position will work Saturday shift and fill in for vacation and personal days
• Work is seasonal and employees are called in seniority order as and when required
• Employees may be trained on and required to work more than one bridge

Position requirements:

• Schedule will be 06:00 to 14:00 Monday through Friday, subject to call outs, and working every other weekend
• High school diploma or GED and valid drivers license
• Position is subject to call outs and will need to be flexible to work all shifts if needed
• Must be willing to work at heights (bridges, ladders, roofs)
• Outdoor work experience is required
• Must be able to converse proficiently in English language skills using radio and telephone operations
• Must be proficient in the use of common hand and power tools

Medical Requirements:

CPKC is committed to the safety and health of its employees and the general public. This position is a safety critical position; all new hires will be required to complete a pre-employment medical that includes a physical, vision, hearing, alcohol, and drug audit assessments. Qualification drug test(s) are also required.

The successful candidate will need to successfully complete the following clearances:

• Driver’s License Verification
• Last 3 years of driving history
• Last 7 years of employment history; includes military service
• Social Security number verification
