Description :
The Pharmacy
Technician performs fundamental duties necessary for the smooth and efficient
operation of the Pharmacy Department in the delivery of drugs to patient
areas, processing charges, maintaining patient information data, generating
required computer reports, answering the telephone, and is involved in
clerical aspects of the employee pharmacy benefit. The Pharmacy Technician
performs the duties necessary to maintain the unit dose drug distribution
system throughout the Hospital as well as in the Pharmacy Department under
the direct supervision of the Pharmacist on duty and ultimately the Director
of Pharmacy.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION,
CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
1.
High School
diploma or equivalent.
2.
Must be registered
with the WV Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician Trainee upon hire.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The

1.
Completes
assigned projects and workload in a timely fashion. Assists in maintaining the
cleanliness and order of the pharmacy department.
2.
Provides prompt and courteous service
to external and internal customers of the department.
3.
Communicates
appropriately with immediate supervisor and co-workers.
4.
Assists
pharmacists in maintaining an accurate medication profile for each patient
receiving medications within the institution according to department and
hospital policies and procedures.
5.
Assists with management of drug stock
including, but not limited to, shelving new drugs stock (with proper rotation
of items), arranging stock and organizing storage areas, documenting the need
for ordering items, and maintaining proper documentation and record keeping.
Assures that expired medications are removed from the pharmacy inventory and
stored properly.
6.
Assists
pharmacists in managing incoming telephone calls to ensure proper triage of
calls.
7.
Satisfactorily completes required hospital
programs.
8.
Accurately prepares medications for
pharmacist review before being dispensed.
9.
Assists
in training and orienting new personnel or students to the departmental
services and programs.
10.
Delivers
medications to patient care areas within appropriate time frames. Processes
transfers and discharges according to established departmental procedures.
11.
Performs the tasks involved with the
preparation and labeling of IV admixtures and the associated record keeping.
12.
Packages dry orals, liquid orals and
small volume injectables in unit-of-use containers
using a combination of mechanical and manual procedures.
13.
Assists pharmacists in ensuring that drug
storage locations are maintained in an appropriate manner, e.g., floor stock,
automated dispensing cabinets, surgery carts, crash carts, etc.
14.
Ensures that drug items are
appropriately billed to various areas or patients.
15.
Assists pharmacists in insuring that
pharmacy inventory is maintained at appropriate levels in a cost-conscious
manner to promote availability of items included in the Formulary.
16.
Completes

17.
