REQUIREMENTS
This is professional accounting work involving the maintenance of the Accounts Receivable, Billing, etc. for Alachua County Health Department. Incumbent ensures the accuracy of accounts receivable, completeness of information contained therein, prepares fiscal analyses, and financial statements on the same.



Must have at least one year of experience using computers and computer programs such as Word, Excel, or Medical Client databases. Must have at least 6 months’ experience verifying Florida Medicaid, Medicare or third-party insurance coverage through FLMMIS, AVAILITY, or another electronic method. Must have a minimum of 6 months’ experience with medical billing processes in an electronic data base.



A minimum of 1 year experience with billing and ICD 10 coding preferred.



A minimum of 6 months experience cashiering: collecting fees via cash, check and credit card transactions preferred.

Duties and Responsibilities
This is professional accounting work involving the maintenance of the Accounts Receivable, Billing, etc. for Alachua County Health Department. Incumbent ensures the accuracy of accounts receivable, completeness of information contained therein, prepares fiscal analyses, and financial statements on the same.



Responsible for reviewing medical records to ensure billing forms have Current Procedure Terminology (CPT) and International Classification of Disease (ICD-10) diagnosis codes for billing of same. responsible for submitting claims for reimbursement from all third-party payers, including but not limited to Medicaid, Medicare, insurance companies, private and government payers, Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs), and other sources; using the Health Management System (HMS).



Maintains a tracking system on all claims submitted to ensure payments are received within acceptable or contracted timeframes. Claims not paid in a timely manner are researched, second notices sent, and discussed with supervisor. Corrects denied claims and resubmits if necessary.


Maintains current paperwork on all claims, showing all actions taken, and current claims statutes. Claims are submitted electronically whenever possible. Reconcile billing slips to claims generated by the HMS on an audit basis to ensure data accuracy.



Monitors for timely processing of claims resubmitting them as necessary to receive reimbursements in a timely manner.



Resubmittals for denied claims and unprocessed claims are to be submitted within 3 months of the bill file creation date.



Keeps abreast of policy and procedure changes and updates in reference to Medicaid, Medicare, and any other payer sources.



Monitors all Medicare and Medicare HMO plans to include HEDIS measurements requirements and bills accordingly.



Performs related work as required. Backs up other billing staff and cashiers as needed.



Responsible for securing the designated information sets for purpose of protecting confidentiality, data integrity, and appropriate access for all information, both confidential and public record, which is stored in hard copy or electronic formats.
