Department: Academic Affairs
Category: Faculty
This twelve-month faculty position oversees all operations in the Burton Center for Student Success, including foundational curricula and instruction, First-Year Seminar, the Writing Center, and peer-tutoring. Typical teaching duty is six credits per semester, usually in Foundations or first-year seminar courses. The Director of the BCSS reports to the Provost.
Essential Functions
Teach 2 SSC 108 Courses Foundations of Reading and Writing or in First-Year Seminar per semester
Schedule / monitor Foundations courses, hire adjuncts as needed
Plan, program, assess First-Year Seminar as well as recruit and orient FYS faculty
Oversee the BCSS budget, reconcile P-Card monthly
Share current best practices in developmental education and in student success with students, faculty, staff, and parents
Train writing center tutors, monitor operations, and work as writing coach with selected students and groups
Assist with assessment / placement / orientation and scheduling for incoming students
Create student success initiatives and programs
Work closely with:
Deans and Faculty
Accessibility Services (by facilitating testing)
Student Affairs
Institutional Research
Counseling Center
Career and Life Planning
Serve on Early Intervention Team, Curriculum Committee, Gen Ed committee, Deans Council, and Provost’s Council
Budgeting and fiscal oversight
Faculty/personnel supervision
Supervisory Responsibility
This position oversees all faculty in the BCSS as well as general supervisor over Writing Center tutors and peer-tutors (in partnership with the Coordinator of Tutoring Services).
Work Environment
Normal office environment where there is no physical discomfort due to temperature, dust, noise and the like.

The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee may infrequently lift or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position.
Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
No travel is expected for this position.
Required Education and Experience
Master’s degree in Education, Special Education, English, Math, or other discipline related to curricular oversight
Credentials in developmental education
Preferred Education and Experience
Terminal degree in Education, Special Education, English, Math, or other discipline related to curricular oversight
