Description :

The Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI) is a multi-mission science operations center for NASA’s flagship observatories. The Facilities Clerk Role

Responsibilities include:

Standard daily tasks:

  • Delivers material throughout the Institute, and satellite office locations.
  • Delivers/picks-up materials within greater Baltimore area.
  • Assists in property control/inventory to include tagging and logging of new property.
  • Assist Shipping/Receiving staff with Packages crated items for shipment as needed.
  • Loads and unloads trucks delivering equipment and supplies. May be required to operate fork-lift to perform this duty.
  • Assists in internal deliveries, office relocations and deliveries as required.
  • Responsible for lifting and moving of heavy objects within scope of work (Shipping/Receiving, moving of furniture and equipment, etc.)
  • Drives the STScI shuttle vehicles as required, and monitors and maintains fuel levels for such vehicles. Maintains log of van mileage and fuel consumption
  • Reports to Facilities Services Group Leader, Deputy Branch Manager and Branch Manager of Facilities and receives general direction from Shipping/Receiving Clerk and Mail Room Clerk.

Occasional tasks:

  • Maintaining clean areas: Turnaround, Garage, and terraces.
  • Assists in Mail Room routines: sorting and material disposition.
  • Minor building repairs including patching and painting walls.
  • Snow Removal.
  • Provide back up to Lead as required.
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned

Your Experience, Skills, & Qualifications:

  • High School graduate or equivalent
  • Minimum six months to one year experience in office and building services. Familiarity with office furniture systems and general building repairs (patching and painting) is a plus
  • Must possess valid MD Class C Driver’s License (or higher), and have a good driving record. Fork lift operator certification a plus
  • Ability to perform manual tasks requiring full range of body movements; ability to lift items up to 75 lbs.
  • Ability to operate common building support equipment.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions; ability to communicate effectively verbally; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships both internally and externally.
  • Must have computing skills for this position.
  • Must be available for after hour emergency call in’s and occasional weekends.

Compensation is commensurate with education and experience. The annual salary range is $40k-45k.
