    Duties Summary

    This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the Department of Defense to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
    About the Position: This position requires prolonged periods of walking, standing, bending, or stooping, as well as the ability to lift, push, or pull objects, greater than 50 pounds. The position requires the availability to perform rotating shift work.

    Responsibilities
    • Assist patients with personal hygiene, activities of daily living, eating and bathing.
    • Transport patients to the bathroom, shower, and/or other clinics/wards.
    • Provide patient comfort by utilizing resources and materials.
    • Respond to patients' call lights and requests within a timely manner.
    • Observe patients? behavior, listen to their concerns, and record their condition.
    • Report observations of the patients to nursing supervisor.
    • Lead patients in therapeutic and recreational activities.
    • Assist with medications and other treatments to patients, following instructions from doctors and other medical professionals.
    • Help with admitting and discharging patients.
    • Monitor patients? vital signs, i.e., blood pressure.
    • Float to other inpatient behavioral health unit as needed.

    • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 3 security investigation or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
    • This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.
    • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
    • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959 must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
    • Two year trial/probationary period may be required.
    • This position requires the incumbent to complete a Childcare Background Check (CNACI) security investigation.
    • This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons.
    • This position may require the incumbent to work on any day or shift, including PMs, nights, weekends, holidays, or on an "on call" basis, necessary to meet mission requirements.
    • This position has been designated as Mission Essential and the incumbent must assume essential personnel status during inclement weather/emergencies.
    • This position requires that you obtain and maintain a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
    • This position requires you to satisfactorily complete a pre-employment physical examination.

    In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.     Basic Requirements for Psychology Tech (Behavioral Health):
    Experience: At least one year of specialized experience which includes: providing patient support care to patients with behavioral health issues, e.g. assisting in the de-escalation of agitated, disoriented, and/or combative high risk patients, therapeutic group therapy sessions, etc. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
    Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone-no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Education Additional information
