Description :
The Hearing Officer will work primarily out of Lee Correctional Institution (Lee County).
Under general supervision:
  • The Hearing Officer supervises and conducts hearings to determine if inmates have violated agency rules.
  • Prepares documents, reports, presents findings of hearings and makes appropriate case disposition.
  • Reviews internal and external documents relative to the hearing process.
  • Coordinates hearing activities within the facility/facilities to include the training of affected staff, i.e., grievance coordinators and administrative staff.
  • Reviews administrative law judges transcripts.

Minimum Requirements:
A Bachelor's degree and experience in probation, parole, human services or unemployment insurance as appropriate for this position.
(Or an acceptable equivalency as approved by the Division of State Human Resources).
SCDC Minimum Requirements:
A Bachelor's degree and four (4) years of experience in correctional security or police work with one (1) year of supervisory experience; or an Associate's degree and six (6) years of experience in correctional security or police work with one (1) year of supervisory experience; or a high school diploma and eight (8) years of experience in correctional security or police work with one (1) year of supervisory experience.
Certification by the South Carolina Department of Corrections Training Academy within the first six months of entrance into the position.

Must successfully complete SCDC Basic Training.
