    Duties Summary

    The primary purpose of this position is to manage and perform technical functions for the research and organizational consultation work for the Department of Behavioral Sciences.


    Responsibilities
    • Conduct evaluations with mental health patients, administer psychological tests and questionnaires, assist with therapy groups, and conduct educational classes and prevention/outreach briefings and activities.
    • Assist credentialed providers with crisis intervention, group therapy and case management. Provide crisis counseling. Assist with therapeutic process groups.
    • Function as case manager for initiating and coordinating care with local inpatient facility for mental health treatment. Coordinate care with other agencies.
    • Conduct basic assessment procedures. Assist credentialed providers in identifying mental health diagnosis.

    Qualifications SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
    GS-05: One year of specialized experience that is equivalent to a GS-04 the next lower in a qualifying pay band or other equivalent pay systems that involved the observation of and assistance in the application of techniques relating to behavior, capacities, traits, interests, and activities of either humans or, under laboratory conditions, animals. Experience may have been gained in connection with a program of research or direct services in psychology that gave a practical understanding of some of the principles, methods, and techniques of psychology needed to assist professional psychologists.
    GS-06: One year of specialized experience that is equivalent to GS-05 or the next lower qualifying pay band or other equivalent pay systems, that involved the observation of and assistance in the application of techniques relating to behavior, capacities, traits, interests, and activities of either humans or, under laboratory conditions, animals. Experience may have been gained in connection with a program of research or direct services in psychology that gave a practical understanding of some of the principles, methods, and techniques.
    GS-07: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower qualifying pay band or GS-06 or other equivalent pay systems, which included interviewing experimental subjects, counseling and clinical clients, employees, and others in order to obtain specific factual data or opinions on specific issues, constructing testing and other measurement devices and questionnaires that parallel existing instruments or for which prototype specifications exist and drafting and revising testing and questionnaire items, gather data on performance of sample groups and results, and carry out preliminary statistical analyses in connection with the standardization and validation of items.
    GS-09: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower qualifying pay band or GS-08 or other equivalent pay systems, which has equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. My experience included interviewing experimental subjects, counseling and clinical clients, employees, and others in order to obtain specific factual data or opinions on specific issues, constructing testing and other measurement devices and questionnaires that parallel existing instruments or for which prototype specifications exist and drafting and revising testing and questionnaire items, gather data on performance of sample groups and results, and carry out preliminary statistical analyses in connection with the standardization and validation of items.
    GS-11: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower qualifying pay band or GS-10 or other equivalent pay systems; including interviewing experimental subjects, counseling and clinical clients, employees, and others in order to obtain specific factual data or opinions on specific issues, constructing testing and other measurement devices and questionnaires that parallel existing instruments or for which prototype specifications exist and drafting and revising testing and questionnaire items, gather data on performance of sample groups and results, and carry out preliminary statistical analysis in connection with the standardization and validation of items.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
    1. Knowledge of the principles, policies, practices concepts and regulations of mental health prevention and treatment programs.
    2. Knowledge of various basic therapy theories, intake and counseling techniques and their application to individual, families and groups
    counseling.
    3. Knowledge of common and well established medical record procedures and regulations to include administration, filing, researching,
    handling, securing and completing sufficient to provide properly filed and completed patient records.
    4. Knowledge of various office automation software programs, tools, and techniques to support office operations and produce a variety of
    documents, such as letters, reports, spreadsheets, databases, and graphs.
    5. Skill in conducting interviews to establish the nature and extent of concerns/issues, provide assistance in developing goals and plans, and determine appropriate referral services/options.
    6. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships using tact and diplomacy in interactions with individuals/families and
    with program representatives and officials.
    PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
    VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social).
