The purpose of this position is to assist the City Engineer, relying heavily on engineering skills, managing resources and making key decisions.
DUTIES: Civil Engineer I
Assists in the preparation of construction plans for Public Works projects; coordinates with local utility agencies to determine locations of above ground and underground facilities; Prepares cost estimates, requests for proposals, and bid documents for Public Works projects; conducts pre-construction meetings, inspects projects during construction, and compares quantities in place with billed and bid quantities; Conducts traffic studies and analysis for optimization of traffic flow and traffic calming issues; responds to traffic related citizen driver complaints; Reviews new subdivision and site design plans, traffic and drainage impact studies, water quality plans, and building permits and access for compliance with applicable regulations and ordinances; Aids in public hearings, contract administration, and contracting of professional services; Assists City Surveyor in performing topographic surveys for City projects; Researches deeds and plats as required for City projects; Provides engineering assistance to other City agencies and assists with interdepartmental projects as directed; Utilizes GIS, CAD and other software to perform analysis and forecasting; Performs clerical functions such as gathering data/information and preparing and presenting reports.
Civil Engineer II Performs design and engineering certification of construction plans for Public Works projects; coordinates with local utility agencies to determine locations of above ground and underground facilities; Prepares cost estimates, requests for proposals, and bid documents for Public Works projects; conducts pre-construction meetings, inspects projects during construction, and compares quantities in place with billed and bid quantities; Conducts traffic studies and analysis for optimization of traffic flow and traffic calming issues; responds to traffic related citizen driver complaints; Reviews new subdivision and site design plans, traffic and drainage impact studies, water quality plans, and building permits and access for compliance with applicable regulations and ordinances; Performs projections and modeling and develops planning documents to be utilized in long-range planning and capital improvements; Aids in public hearings, contract administration, and contracting of professional services; Assists City Surveyor in performing topographic surveys for City projects; Researches deeds and plats as required for City projects; Provides engineering assistance to other City agencies and assists with interdepartmental projects as directed; Utilizes GIS, CAD and other software to perform analysis and forecasting; Performs clerical functions such as gathering data/information and preparing and presenting reports.
REQUIREMENTS:
Civil Engineer I
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field, with one to two years of engineering-related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position. Must possess a valid Kentucky driver’s license and Engineer-In-Training Certification.
Civil Enginner II
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field, with four to eight years’ experience in engineering design and project management; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position. Must be a Licensed Professional Engineer in Kentucky, or ability to obtain Kentucky P.E. license within six months. Must possess a valid Kentucky driver’s license.
SALARY:
Civil Engineer I: Exempt; Grade 14; $78,443 ($37.71/hr.); plus full benefits package
Civil Engineer II: Exempt: Grade 16: $86,483 ($41.58/hr.); plus full benefits package
WORK HOURS: 40 hours per week; Monday - Friday 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.; on-site position
