Postdoctoral Research Associate Job Opening in College Station
Description :
The postdoctoral researcher within the Department of Hospitality, Hotel Management and Tourism will investigate local community dynamics, including community partnerships and leadership, to foster sustainability and resilience in local hospitality and tourism businesses. This research aims to develop resiliency of local tourism businesses by analyzing the impacts of Covid-19 and applying findings to potential external stressors such as natural disasters, economic recessions, and climate change. The project will focus on analyzing social and community support in non-metropolitan areas concerning the local tourism and hospitality industry’s sustainability and resilience. In addition to research, the postdoctoral researcher will engage in departmental research projects, teaching, and presentations for professional development.
The salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. The appointment is contingent on funding availability. This position is located in College Station, Texas, with hybrid work options available.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Design and conduct research activities that investigate local tourism businesses to improve their resiliency and sustainability under the guidance of one or more faculty members.- Support the development of productive and collaborative relationships with stakeholders, including local business owners, community partnerships, and governmental partners through foundational and applied research and related outreach.
- Contribute to or lead the drafting of reports, briefings, and scientific publications to distribute research findings and implications.
- Actively engage in project-related research works, identify funding opportunities, and write grant proposals.
- Perform other reasonably related duties as assigned.
- Work occasionally in the evenings and weekends to engage with the local community and attend community events.

Required Education and Experience: - A Ph.D. in a relevant field. Required knowledge, abilities and skills:
- Ability to plan, organize, and implement research activities independently with moderate supervision.
- Proficiency in employing both qualitative and quantitative methodologies.
- A successful publishing record in peer-reviewed outlets.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in collaborative environments, including with stakeholders and other non-technical parties.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate clear goals and synthesize research findings for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to work both independently and as a productive member of a team.
- Ability to multi task and work cooperatively with others.
Preferred knowledge, abilities and skills:
- Experience with field-based social scientific research methods, including data collection with human participants via surveys, focus groups, interviews, or behavioral experiments.
- Experience with Multi-state Hatch project
- Experience working with stakeholders.
- Knowledge of or experience in conducting spatial analysis
Supervisory Responsibility: This position may include informal supervisory or mentorship roles with graduate student workers.
Work Environment: The Postdoctoral researcher will work in a standard professional academic setting, including an office environment. The primary duty location will be in College Station and Bryan, TX area. Hybrid work options, including remote work, are available upon discussion with the supervisor. At times, the researcher may need to engage in work at locations away from the main duty station to conduct research and engagement activities. All positions are security-sensitive.
